Wishlist: how it works

Shoppers save what they are not ready to buy yet - guests included - and what they save becomes a demand report you can read before you discount.

Most people who like something do not buy it that minute. A wishlist keeps that intent instead of letting it leave with them, and it gives you the one thing analytics cannot: a list of products people want at the current price but have not committed to.

Guests get a real list

No account required. A shopper who has never signed in gets a wishlist that works exactly like anyone else's, and when they later create an account or log in, everything they saved moves across on its own. This matters more than it sounds - a save button that answers “create an account first” is a save button nobody presses, and the wishlist stays empty.

Nothing is asked for

The wishlist never asks for an email address and never adds anyone to your marketing tools. Saving is not subscribing. If you already have that shopper's address from somewhere else, it stays attached to their list so a future reminder has somewhere to go - but that is a separate feature, not this one.

What gets saved

You choose, on the block: the selected size, or the product. Save the size if you want the wishlist to tell you which sizes people want - that is the version worth reading before a reorder. Save the product if your sizes are interchangeable and you would rather one heart meant one thing.

A heart on a collection card always saves the product, whichever you chose. There is no size selector on a card, and picking one on the shopper's behalf would put something on their list they never chose.

Setting it up

  1. Activate the Wishlist add-on on the Plans and Add-ons page.
  2. Add the Wishlist button block to your product template, near the add-to-cart button.
  3. Create a normal Shopify page - /pages/wishlist is the usual choice - and add the Wishlist page block to it.
  4. Paste that page's address into the Wishlist page URL field on the app's Wishlist page. Without it the counter has nowhere to link.
  5. Optionally add the Wishlist counter app embed, and the Wishlist heart inside your product cards.
The wishlist page renders in the shopper's browser rather than on the server. That is deliberate: its contents belong to one person, and a page whose body differs per visitor must never be cached by your theme or a CDN.
